#Since85 Listening Party

On Friday I had the pleasure of attending Collo’s listening party which was at K.I.C.C- Helipad. The breath taking view of Nairobi from the rooftop of K.I.C.C was so amazing while Collo performed tracks from his album #Since85 while being backed up with a live band. I loved the concept of the listening party which was enjoy the view Nairobi while Collo does his thing with a live band, the concept is fresh as opposed to regular listening parties where the album is usually played by the DJ. I also loved how Collo kept hip-hop alive by rocking Adidas (any hiphop head knows adidas are integral part of hip-hop) plus how he traded in a rope chain for a wooden african inspired chain. Peep the pics below:

Dj Stylez kicked off the party with a old school montage of kenyan music…he took it way back to Kalamashaka days yo..it was hella fresh!

Yvonne and I graced the event with our presence…

Dj Hypnotiq x I

Kora x I

Octopizzo x Porgie Rosso were there clowning…

#Bonkerz…nuff said

Yvonne was up, up and away

Porgie x Mvoo (CEO of Bonkerz) x Wendy showed off their Bonkerz chains

Kora got mad kisses from Yvonne and I

Yvonne got kisses too…

#BlackExcellence Moi x Kimathi of Jamhuri Wear x Frasha of P-Unit x Bryan Smallz CEO of BlackStar

Collo wrapped up the show in a brown suit just to show how he can clean up nice…

Overall it was a great event however I had hoped that Collo would have had this party when he had a track that was getting heavy rotation on radio so that all the industry folk would leave the party just talking about the heat that is on his album Since 85. When that album drops support Collo by coppin that!Peep more pictures from the event here Keep Hip-Hop alive.

The Chop Up: Tim Luvaga aka @Tymytim

I wrote this article about Tim Luvaga aka @tymytim back in 2011 when I used to write for Siteiya’s Blog. I loved writing about Tim (the killa producer) at the time, peep the article below:

Tim “Luv” walks in around 2.47pm and goes straight to the lounge room to drop off his bag, walks back out into the Homeboyz presenters room, gives hugs to everyone and surprisingly enough he doesn’t have his favourite bottle of Afya juice. He proceeds to ask anyone who is in the room if they need anything from the store as he makes a quick Afya juice run, one person says soda or PK gum. As he runs off to the store to get his bottled crack, (which I think sometimes is his inspiration to a lot of stuff he does) one thing that he didn’t forget though is to rock his hat, (which to some extent I think he hides underneath) plus his clothes match every single time, this time around he’s rocking brown and black from head toe. He rocks a brown and black checked shirt, black jeans, brown shoes and most of all a black hat and trust he does it well.
Every single time he comes to the studio his clothes have to match, better yet, his colours have to coordinate (it’s like a routine he never breaks). He comes back to the studio, with his juice in tow heads to the lounge, pulls out his laptop, pulls out his headphones and then does what he does best cook up some crack behind his laptop before Ignition kicks off. The interview we had below was not live however from the time I have spent with Tim “Luv” (from working at Homeboyz Radio) I can say I’ve studied his moves or rather the moves of a mad scientist and I wanted to give you a glimpse of how the mad scientist cooks up his potions to give you two of the best shows Ignition and (one of the doopest Hip-hop shows in Nairobi) The Jump off. Here is how he chopped it up with me.

Caged Black Woman

Dear black boy, black husband and father don’t you ever try to build yourself up if that requires breaking your black woman down rather lay your black woman down show her why she is a queen, lay your black woman down so you can feast like a king.
